Let's Make Every Day World Environment Day!
June 5th is World Environment Day, a day in which people are encouraged to take action in helping our planet, our home, the Earth.
The global campaign began in 1974, and is celebrated in over 100 countries. Every year has a different theme and host country - this years being: Air Pollution and the country being China.
Environmentalism is something close to the entire Mummy Meagz family’s hearts. It’s no secret that urgent action needs to be taken in order to help save and protect our one and only planet Earth. There is no Planet B folks!
So, what can we do in our every day lives to help?
Why not walk or cycle to work? Soak up some Vitamin D and enjoy the nature along the way. Even using public transport helps to lower your carbon footprint.
Let’s talk about cow farts… Did you know methane is 28 times more harmful to the environment than carbon dioxide? One of the most effective ways to lower your carbon footprint, and to overall reduce your negative impact on the planet, is by ditching meat and dairy - or at least cutting down your intake of these products dramatically.
Compost your food and your garden waste. When waste is sent to landfill, air cannot get to the organic waste, therefore as the waste breaks down it creates methane. But if you compost at home, oxygen helps the waste to decompose aerobically which means hardly any methane is produced AND you get free fertiliser for your garden. Win Win!
Turn off your lights and electronics when you aren’t using them. It takes 2 seconds out of your day to simply flip a switch.
It doesn’t take much, as you can tell. Often the smallest changes made by lots of people make a huge difference. Together we can #BeatAirPollution!
